Brakes
Well, haven’t written in a while, which is always the case with people’s blogs, right?
Anyway, since my last blog, I went to Laysons Restorations and got a few things. They didn’t have a cut mat for the trunk, and it was pricey for a roll, so I decided to get one online soon. There is a place that also sells cut carpet, which I may decide to get instead. The guy at Laysons showed me that the spare tire had a slightly larger rim, that they put slightly smaller rims for those spares. So it sticks up a little bit, and I couldn’t get the board to put over it! I think either getting some plexiglass cut (thanks to Greg in Portland for that idea!) or just get the carpet and deal with the hump. I did get the strut (expensive!) for the lid, so now I don’t have to prop it up with a board.
Next is the brakes. Changing the front to disc brakes, and getting the back ones replaced with new pads (or whatever drum brakes use) since one is cracked. The brake conversion kit cost me $840 - so hopefully I can get them replaced for a decent price. Had troubles getting up to Lynnwood to the Brake Doctor’s, and the kit hasn’t come in, so I am going to wait to take the kit up to get a quote from the brake people. Maybe Wolf’s Garage can do it?
The transmission seems to be struggling a bit, not really slipping, but acting strange, hesitating when shifting. Urgh…. what I need to do is get it serviced, possibly even replaced with one that matches the 318 engine better - but first will be the rear end. It needs to match the engine better. It’s a great cruising car, but in town, not the pick up it could have.
Will also need to get exhaust system done, will need custom headers (?) and new dual exhaust.
I am going to try to do all the interior stuff myself, except for the seats.
Whew, I will have quite a bit of $ invested in this car when done. She’s worth it, she is cute!
