Yeah…………… I got my car back, and the driver’s rear window barely goes up and down, the stuff was installed too tight or something. The driver’s side window up front is ok, but has a gap in one area, so it may leak. It all doesn’t sit well. I was also sold a wrong part - so I have to track back through which company I bought it from, I know it is one of 2 places I got them from. I called Don, he said that they did have some trouble (what, like I wouldn’t notice?) and I told him that the goal for me doing all this was to be able to have leak-proof weatherstripping, and to be able to use all windows. He said I can take it back next week. He also said that newly manufactured, instead of old stock, isn’t completely the same, that sometimes they don’t fit exactly. We will see what happens, stay tuned…
The motor is not running too well. Idle is still rough, the lower compression on one cylinder is getting more apparent. The carb races when cold, and is fine when it is warmed up, but still acts like it doesn’t catch well when I punch it. Called a place, they say it is better to rebuild the current engine, so you know what you have, and no problems with parts not fitting. They estimated $3k-$5k to rebuild! Sheesh. Found a place that sells rebuilt ones with a 7 year, 70,000 mile warranty for around $1200 or so. What should I do? Keep this one, rebuild it, or buy a different one, and try to get a 318 put in it? I emailed a place in Bellevue and they are checking into prices for me, they specialize in Mustangs but do pony cars and others from that era. We shall see what I get as a quote from them. I don’t want a back yard mechanic to rebuild it, but don’t want to spend $5k just to get the motor rebuilt!
Got the adhesive and release agent for the trunk weatherstripping. I want to go to town on that trunk as soon as it gets warmer out, but that could be another couple of months still. Basically, I am going to have to sand the trunk out, clean it, then primer it, paint it, and put a mat or some carpet down. The spare tire looks good. I have a newer jack (non-bumber) because the old one was rrrruuuusssttteeeedddd!!!! Then I will install the weatherstripping. I figure I will borrow a friend’s garage for doing this, maybe drink beer while we I am doing it. A nice Sunday afternoon kind of thing.
Dropped Cricket off last night at Speedy Glass to have Donnie do the weatherstripping and felts for the windows. One more thing to check off! I can’t wait until it gets warmer around here, I got lots of other stuff to do to her.
