Another car in the driveway…

Posted in Reports  by barracuda No Comments

Well, Cricket isn’t an only car now. She has to share the driveway with a younger and less thirsty car. I brought home a 1992 Ford Tempo (ick!) that was my grandmas. 80,000 miles, small 4cylinder engine. This will be the jetting around town kind of car since gas is sooooo expensive right now. Cricket will remain the baby, and only go out for fun drives here and there. This is the first process of getting things ready for the restoration, having a second car to drive. I’m not even going to post photos of the new car. I know Cricket is pissed enough to have to share the driveway.

Site improvements

I decided to update my template and give it a newer and a bit cleaner layout. Nothing major, but just an update. If there’s anything you would like to see on this site, or have suggestions, feel free to contact me or comment and I’ll see what I can do.

Convert the rust

Posted in Reports  by barracuda No Comments

There is just a tad bit of surface rust on this body in a few areas, from sitting in storage for over a year. I had some left over rust converter I used when I did the trunk of Cricket last year. I mixed up a bit and covered the trunk, and a few other small pieces, along with a door and part of a fender. It converts the rust to a different element, and protects. I still have more so I may just do more of the areas that has just a touch of rust.

I should start pricing stray guns and see if I can do some more protection myself. I’m unsure as to what a body shop would do other than spray it with some kind of a protecting primer. There are a couple of dings and a couple of very small cancer spots on the back quarter panels, and a bit more on one of the floor boards which will need repair. I am guessing that they will have to retouch any areas they fix that have been protected or primed. I just want to make sure that the northwest moisture doesn’t do anything to that  bare metal.
